Overcoming Social Anxieties

Social anxiety is a clinical disorder identified by the National Institute of Health as a mental health condition. It is a fear of being watched and judged by others that affects work, school, social and day-to-day activities. It makes it hard for individuals to even maintain the basic friendship relationships (National Institute of Health).

Social anxieties can be disabling, even paralytic. It can affect not only social relationships but professional relationships, making it difficult to maintain jobs or to job search. Some individuals will suffer from social anxiety to the point of not being able to even talk to an individual. This anxiety is debilitating. 

Some signs of social anxiety are:

  • Physical Symptoms- sweating, blushing, faster heart rate
  • Nausea 
  • Avoiding others or places
  • Fear 
  • Self-consciousness
  • Avoiding eye contact

But there is hope! You can free yourself from the shackles of social anxiety and have more control by creating a reservoir of useful methods for immediate use in managing social anxieties. Some of these strategies include:

  • Mindfulness 
  • Meditation 
  • Visualization 
  • Confidence
  • Natural remedies
