I am often asked what my children are reading now. I am happy that my children are avid readers -even if it does cost me a fortune in books at times. (Why? Because the library doesn’t always have the newest, greatest and most popular.) At this time they are reading What If. This book has become the coveted favorite in our home. It is even battled over.

This isn’t the first time that we’ve had books become a coveted possession. When the Hunger Games came out. WOW! That was a sneaky battle. The books had a permanent place on the fireplace mantel. There were several bookmarks in each book. Some of the kids wanted to savor it. Others wanted to hurry and find out what happened next. But as it happened — there was always more than one person at a time reading the book.

What other books have been in great demand in our home?

This list is added to frequently. Last summer it was the Divergent series. Then, there was the whole Twilight era. (My favorite story came from a neighbor boy. He read the whole Twilight series. He didn’t like it but he stated that he wanted lots of dates. By knowing the Twilight story, he emulated some of the romance scenes and talked about the books with the young women.)

Harry Potter provided a great conversation piece at our home. What is your favorite spell? What would you do if you had magic? What do you think will happen in the next book?  Creating conversations about what I am reading and about what they are reading has driven much of their thirst for reading.

The greatest problem in our home? Slips of the tongue or sharing too much information about a book/story!
