Graphic Organizers in Scripture StudyThe other day I was preparing for a class when I looked at my K-W-L chart. I paused for a moment and continued to ponder. What if I were to use the K-W-L chart in scripture study? I have read my scriptures every day for years, but breaking away from the habit of reading from cover to cover was difficult -to say the least!
I pulled out
a K-W-L chart and stared. I wasn’t exactly sure where I should start. Then, it occurred to me that I should do exactly the same thing that I do when I study any other thing. Create a list of what I want to study! I sat with a notebook and started my list:
- charity
KWL chart- free pdf
- forgiveness
- trust
- faith
- knowledge
- love
- priesthood
- eternal life
- serving others
The list continued on and I left a blank page to add to it at a later date. I chose to start with trust.
With my graphic organizer in hand, I started listing what I already knew and what I wanted to know. I focused on the 5 Ws and H (who, what, where, when, why and how) to develop my questions. Wow! What a great experience. I was touched that I knew so much, but I was especially curious to learn what Father commanded and said on this topic.
So, what have I learned? More than I can tell you here but learning with the K-W-L chart in hand will continue indefinitely for me as I build my understanding of the gospel.
